Don’t Get Caught Underwater
Your home is in danger of being flooded. You have done everything possible in the short time since being notified but now it is out of your hands. You picture the dirty river water getting into your home, destroying furniture, appliances and prized family keepsakes. Call AAG today and make sure your home, autos, and investments are protected with WA flood insurance today!
You don’t even want to consider the clean-up effort and expense.
But you are thankful you have your home (or renter’s) insurance because you’re sure it covers flood damage…or at least you think it does…doesn’t it?
NO. It doesn’t!
Say Yes to Flood Insurance Washington
That’s correct. Your home or renter’s insurance doesn’t protect you from the damage a flood causes. And you know that a combination of factors like the rainy season, the continuing repairs to the Howard Hanson Dam and the unpredictable Green River (or whatever river is closest to YOU) could cause floods no matter where you are in the state!
So, make the right choice and buy some flood insurance in WA. Even, if you live in a low-to-moderate risk area, it makes sense to obtain flood insurance. (The expense for flood insurance in these areas can be as low as $150 per year and the resulting protection is definitely worth it!)
You may not think a flood could impact you. However, over the course of a 30 year mortgage, statistics suggest that your home has a 26% change of being damaged by a flood. Over that same time period, it has just a 9% chance of being damaged by a fire.
How are WA Flood Insurance Rates Determined?
What factors determine my flood insurance rate in WA? If you call and speak with an AAG Insurance professional, we will gladly explain it to you further. But, in short there are a few Flood Insurance Rating Factors:
- Base Flood Elevation
- Flood Vents
- The age of your house
Base Flood Elevation
Base Flood Elevation is the elevation that a potential flood is expected to reach. Factors include slope and geography of where your dwelling was built and is located. Elevation is a huge component as even a single foot of elevation change can be the difference between thousands of dollars in repairing damages, and avoiding those costs.
If a part of your building or structure falls onto a Flood Hazard Area, you may be required to purchase flood insurance, even if you dwelling is located significantly above the lowest point on the property.
Flood Vents
Large water streams have ample force and pressure to remove a structure from its foundation. One factor in determining flood insurance rates in a town such as Chehalis, Spokane, or Kennewick, WA are flood vents. The purpose of a flood vent is to allow fast moving water to pass under an elevated structure, such as a building on an elevated crawl space, which reduces the pressure and lowers the risk of displacing a house from its foundation.
The Age of Your House
As with most types of catastrophe insurances, age is always a factor. Call an AAG flood insurance expert today, or click on the quote form above.
